Hello Bronze and Silver Families,
I hope everyone had a nice holiday with your families, this is your update for April 6th:
Meet Wrap up: Thank you to all who came out for the Hippity Hoppity meet this past weekend! And a big thank you to our coaches as well, the two levels were split among five sessions so it was a long weekend and we appreciate your hard work.
Overall the meet went well, we had many kids place on events and all-around and Silver session 3S1 placed 3rd as a team, congratulations! We had some tough competition this weekend, which is good for the kids to experience as we work our way into the second half of our season and make some goals towards state. At the bottom of this email I have included a short snippet about our training philosophy that I like to send out from time to time.
Peak Meet Schedule Up: Please view the calendar at dsgbounders.com for the weekend of April 25th for your session schedule and roster splits.
Summer Practice Schedule Changes: Throughout this week I will be sending practice schedule changes for groups that will be moving up/into new practice times when our schedules shift on June 1st. Please keep a close eye on your email as these will be sent out to individual groups.
Thank you and have a wonderful week,
Adrie Garcia
A quick note about our training philosophy:
I would like to take a moment to reiterate our training philosophy as we approach the second half of our season. At DSG we have always strongly believed in a well-rounded approach to youth athletics that focuses on the whole child. This means in the beginning levels we train fewer hours allowing our students to have plenty of family time and engage in other sports and activities. We do not believe in imposing early specialization in youth sports and excessive training hours. As our athletes move up into the intermediate and advanced levels, their hours steadily increase as they mature. We do not encourage specialization in only gymnastics until they have reached the more advanced levels, and even then, our upper level athletes have managed to include additional extracurriculars as their schedules allow. Our large and successful teams at the upper levels and the number of graduating seniors we have each year are a testament to the efficacy of our philosophy.
Additionally, we strongly believe that teaching the level appropriate progressions and challenging the athletes will lead them to lead them to their highest level of gymnastics as they grow and mature. At times we may compete against some clubs who favor heavier training hours at the lower levels and prioritize sticking with the most basic of skills to attain the highest score. Many of these teams carry much smaller rosters at the upper levels due to burn out. We want our teams to be challenged and progress as this will extend the competitive career of our athletes.
Thank you again for your support of our program and for being a part of the DSG family. In our 48th season, we have the longest standing gymnastics club in the state of Colorado and consistently have some of the largest teams at all levels due to our wonderful community of gymnasts, families, and coaches.
Thank you!
