Team Update 1/19

Good Morning, 

This is your update for January 19th.

Congratulations to all teams who competed in our season opener in Castle Rock this weekend. Overall, it was a great way to start the season. Of our 5 sessions, 3 teams placed in the team awards (Diamonds 4th, Platinum Squad B 4th, and Golds squad B second). We also placed many individual and all around placements including 2 all around champions (Sophia R Platinum and Penny J Gold) and a top 3 finish at session 9 in the Gold Jr A division. We also qualified the vast majority of our athletes to state. All of this said, there is plenty of room for improvement and growth so we will now have the kids make some benchmark goals as we head into the next meet, which will either be San Diego or Winterfest, depending on if you are traveling. Tips for Parents: How you can help us set your athletes up for success

• Emphasize the importance of attendance and arriving on time to ensure they get their full warm up and stretch. Part of our philosophy at DSG is to avoid overtraining and burnout by keeping efficient hours, but this requires consistent attendance on the part of the athlete. 

• Make sure your athletes are fueled and hydrated sufficiently, especially after long school days. For teen athletes, they should begin to plan and be accountable for this themselves.

• Watch the open gym and private lesson schedule so your athlete can get a little extra time to work on skills or events that might need a little extra attention. 

• Talk with your athlete about how to handle their emotions when they experience frustrations, mistakes, or setbacks. The coaches are doing this as well, but athletes tend to use the adults in their lives as a compass, so teaching them emotional regulation and to refocus on their training and goals is extremely helpful!
